Thespys

Submit to OpenWATER
REGISTRATION:  TROUPE DIRECTORS may submit information here, registering their students' Thespy information using this google form.  Completing this form is giving permission for your students to be entered into this year's program - and that YOU have verified that the students have met all requirements for participation:  that they are inducted Thespians on file with EDTA and have selected eligible content that meets the EDTA guidelines.  All entries must be registered by 8 am on December 1st.

ADJUDICATORS NEEDED:   If you are willing to serve as an adjudicator for our Thespy event during the later part of January, sign up here! Please email [email protected] to be contacted with more details.  Small stipends for each session of judging are available.

 PA THESPY REGISTRATION INFO
• To participate, students must be inducted Thespians and members of an active troupe.
• Students DO NOT have to attend the PA State Conference in order to submit a Thespy this year.
• This process serves as the PA Chapter Qualifying Event  - and students who earn a Superior will receive an invite to the final round of Thespy adjudication to be held at ITF in June.
• Students may enter more than one Thespy - but they must from different categories (i.e. a solo and participation in a duet musical is ok, but not 2 solo musicals)

1. All Thespy registration applications (google form posted above) must be received by December 1st. This registration must be done by directors, not students. Submit a separate form for each Thespy entry.  (If it is a duet/group performance, you will list all student participants’ info within one form submission.)

2. Students are responsible for ensuring that their entry is EDTA-approved content for all performance Thespys. This list is updated at the start of each school year - and choice of ineligible content will result in automatic disqualification.

3. All Thespys will be virtual. Students will record themselves and submit / upload the audition and presentations no later than January 12, 2026.  This is done on the OpenWater platform where the $15 (credit card) payment will be due.  You need to finish your Openwater submission by saving your application to your Cart and paying/checking out.

4. Dress: Dress neatly in simple, modest outfits in black or dark colors. No theatrical makeup is allowed. Costumes are not allowed. Students should refrain from wearing anything that might distract the judges.

5. For Performance Thespys, students will need to record their performance. They can either upload a video of that performance or share the link to that performance in their application. The recording needs to show the student from below their feet to above their head.

6. For Tech Thespys, students will need to create digital files of everything they are to present and instead of a live Q & A with the judges, there are likely questions listed to be answered as part of your entry. Refer to the guidelines for your Thespy category to be sure that you include all necessary content.

7. Be sure that you have the proper digital settings in place to allow any judge with the link to access the content of your video.

DIVERSITY, EQUITY, INCLUSION & ACCESSIBILITY

Race, ethnic origin, gender, sexual orientation, body type, and/or disability should not influence an adjudicator’s evaluation of a Thespian. Thespians are encouraged to choose material that speaks to them as long as all copyright rules are followed. For example, a Thespian may play a role of any gender, regardless of the gender with which the student identifies. However, it is important to note that all copyright rules are to be enforced. The Thespian cannot change pronouns in the script without the express written consent from the rights holder.

Deaf and hard of hearing Thespians may use a conductor (adult or student) in Musical Theatre Performance and Dance categories to guide tempo.

If a Thespian has a question or concern about the adjudication process as it relates to DEIA, or if a participant requires an accommodation, please email  [email protected]  prior to the December 1st registration deadline.
