 ​2019-20 PA State Thespian Conference - 'MASQUERADE'
held at York College of PA and the Appell Center for the Performing Arts (about 10 minute drive from the college, NOT walkable)
dates - Jan 2, 3 & 4, 2020

Main Stage - ​Chartiers Valley, Dallastown, Kennard Dale, Palmyra, Ridley, Susquehannock
One Acts - Charles Boehm, Downingtown East, Dubois, Harry S Truman, PALCS, Parkland, Penn Manor, Pennsbury, Spring Grove, Springfield, State College, Upper Dublin, Wilson, York Country Day

It will be VERY beneficial for troupes to have their own transportation with them the entire weekend. The Shuttle cost will be in the $35 range PER PERSON. It may very well be more economically feasible to have your own coach with you the entire conference.

Payment of conference fees – from school districts for Troupe Participation in Conference is due ASAP - no later than hand delivered at Conference Registration. PAYABLE TO PA THESPIANS

Students may attend the conference with a registered troupe if they are not Inducted Thespians, however they need to be inducted to be eligible to participate in Thespys (ITEA), Scholarships and Jr Auditions/Interviews.

Transportation

In order for everyone to see the opening show on Thursday, January 2, it is being performed twice. On the registration form you will be asked to select which option best fits your needs (1st come, 1st serve). 
BLUE TRAK
12:30PM Performance:  
  • For schools who can get to York College by the 11:30 Registration and be in their assigned seats in time for curtain.
  • AND WHO HAVE THEIR OWN TRANSPORTATION to check into their motel at 3:30 PM and then return for dinner (6pm) and the evening events.
GOLD TRAK
​3:30 PM Performance:
  • For those schools who will have a longer travel time (or have to put in a 1/2 day of school).
  • AND/OR WILL NEED SHUTTLE TRANSPORTATION.
  • Please note: you will have to check into your motel, then have your transportation bring you to York College and before it leaves.  You will register, beginning at 2:30 PM for the  3:30 PM for the show. 
Conference Schedule
​GENERAL CONFERENCE SCHEDULE

Thursday 1/2 - Registration (staggered) starts around noon, evening activities end at 11pm
​
​Friday 1/3 - Activities begin at 9am, conclude at 11pm
​
Saturday 1/4 - Activities begin at 9am, conclude around 6pm (new ending time, Saturday dinner not included)

NEEDS FOR YOUR OWN COACH/BUS -
THURSDAY - coach will bring you to conference (see the options to the left based on early or late conference start). Your coach will pick you up at York College at 7pm and take you to the Appell Center. At 10:30, they will pick you up at the Appell Center and take you to your hotel.
FRIDAY - take you from your Hotel to York College at 8:30am. Pick you up at York College and take you back to the hotel at 11pm.
​Saturday - 
take you from your Hotel to York College at 8:30am. Pick you up at York College at 1:30 or 2:30 and take you to the Appell Center. Pick you up at the Appell Center at 6pm to take you home.

RATES & FEES

Conference Registration (includes entrance to all conference events, Thursday dinner, Friday lunch, Friday dinner & Saturday lunch)
- Thespians - $110

- Non Thespians - $120
- Directors and Chaperones - $50
- $10 per person late and/or change fee

Other Fees

- $25 fee for a One Act slot
- ITEA aka "Thespys"  (formerly IEs)- $15 per person
- Tech Challenge team - $25 per team
- Shuttle - $35 per person (this is a significant increase from previous years - perhaps it is more economical to charter your own coach?)
- Scholarship and College Auditions - $15
- STO discount - $55 or $110
- $300 fee for having a main stage adjudicated and then refunded if the show receives a Festival invite

ELECTRONIC TROUPE DISPLAY 
​SCENIC DESIGN CHALLENGE & HEADPIECE/MAKEUP CHALLENGE  the Headpiece/Makeup challenge is something we have been doing for a number of years. The Scenic Design Challenge is something new this year and another opportunity for tech oriented students.
INTERNATIONAL THESPIAN EXCELLENCE AWARDS  aka "THESPYS" (formerly IEs) (must be inducted Thespian)
We follow all rules of the EDTA (national) program. 
Click here to get more information on our State Program. Students need to register individually by OCTOBER 15 -  registration link
SENIOR SCHOLARSHIPS (must be inducted Thespian)
Students must be registered with Conference Registration AND individually through this form. There is a $15 fee per student, payable with registration. Due by OCTOBER 15. Click here for specific information about this program.  (limit of 3 performance and 3 tech applicants per troupe)
STO SELECT - due by Dec 6th.    Make sure you have the rights to perform whatever it is you are planning to do. As a good rule of thumb, use the IE rules for acting and musical rights. We do not need to have you send us the same information that is requested for IEs, but we will expect that you have secured the rights to perform whatever you select. For troupes not presenting a Main Stage or One Act.
 JUNIOR AUDITIONS/INTERVIEW (must be inducted Thespian)
Students must be registered with Conference Registration AND individually through this form. There is a $15 fee per student, payable with registration. Due by OCTOBER 15. ​Click here for specific information about this program. (not a limit to the number of applicants per troupe)
STO APPLICATION (must be inducted Thespian)
Students interested in running for the Student State Board must complete this APPLICATION AND the Signature Page by OCTOBER 15th. Part of the application is uploading the completed Signature page.  
Directions - download the signature form and get all needed signatures, then take a picture of it or scan the completed form and upload at the appropriate place on the form. All STO Applicants need to attend the double STO Leadership workshops at the State Conference. This is selection process for STOs.

Director

DIRECTOR FORMS & INFO

If a Troupe Director cannot attend the State Conference, an Acting Troupe Director can be named by the Troupe Director and confirmed by the School Principal via an official letter to the Chapter Director. The Troupe Director should send the contact information for the Acting Troupe Director to the registration chairperson. It is expected that the Acting Troupe Director will meet all deadlines and assume all responsibilities of the Troupe Director for participation prior to and during the State Conference.
 TROUPE REGISTRATION ... Download the form to the right (​posted soon), save it to your computer and email the completed excel file to the Chapter Director by Oct 31st. IF YOU CAN'T USE EXCEL, PLEASE DON'T OPEN IN A DIFFERENT PROGRAM SINCE THAT WILL CHANGE FORMATS AND FORMULAS. CONTACT THE CHAPTER DIRECTOR AND WE WILL GIVE YOU A DIFFERENT OPTION. Reminder - Students need to register themselves for ITEA, Sr. Scholarships and Jr Auditions/Interviews by Oct 15th.

TRANSPORTATION - what do you need?
Conference Schedule
TRAK-1 BACKGROUND CHECK - ALL Adults (Workshop Presenters, College Reps, Chaperones & Troupe Directors - any non student) need to have a background check. You will receive an email with the application link after we process registrations. Please complete that form ASAP. This background check is being done for and paid for by PA Thespians. This is separate from whatever school districts may require for adults to participate as chaperones. Every non student will receive an email with the link for the application (- this is why everyone needs to be registered with a working email address.)

HOTELS  are now taking reservations for the State Conference. Here is the list of hotels that are holding rooms - make sure you tell them that you are with PA Thespians.

EDUCATOR GRANT - to help a teacher attend the International Festival or the EdTA National Conference (due Dec 6th) 
ROYALTY AFFIDAVIT - all troupes presenting a Main Stage show or a One Act must complete this form by Dec 6th.
ADMINISTRATOR AWARD - applications due by Dec 6th. This submission is all done online

College Credit for attending the State Conference. The University of Northern Colorado is offering graduate credit for troupe directors who attend the state conference. Forms will be posted here in November to be able to register for this.
