SCENIC DESIGN CHALLENGE
Students will individually produce and bring to life a theatrically-based scenic design based on a show-specific prompt.
Concept
Student will receive a description of a scene from a show. Each individual student will design and construct the set for that scene. Students may choose to use a technology-based platform or use a cardboard box as the stage and include materials to represent set pieces/decorations, etc.
- STO will provide a theme This will be announced a week before conference.
- Students will work individually to create makeup and headpiece that fits the theme. Full makeup kit may be used. No wigs.
- Students will work individually to create a headpiece that fits the theme. The base should be a recycled object from your home. You may choose up to 10 different items to be used in your headpiece. We encourage these items to be things you have around the house that can be recycled for this project.
- Students should submit a (1) photo of the finished makeup and headpiece by Thursday night of conference. There will be a submission process shared with participants and the projects will be shown to the conference on Saturday.

- If you choose technology, you are responsible for obtaining and learning the technology.
- If you choose the cardboard box option, your design must remain in the box provided.
- You may not alter the box because in reality you would not be able to alter the theater.
- Hazardous materials may not be used.
- Students are to complete all of the work themselves.
- Students should submit a (1) photo of the finished scenic design (digital or 3d model) by Thursday night of conference. There will be a submission process shared with participants and the projects will be shown to the conference on Saturday.
