SCENIC DESIGN CHALLENGE and HEADPIECE /MAKEUP CHALLENGE
HEADPIECE AND MAKE-UP CHALLENGE
Create a team of 5: 1 headpiece designer, 1 make-up designer, 2 crew, 1 model. The model should wear rehearsal blacks.
What to bring:
1. full make-up kit, your choice, no wigs
2. Items for headpiece construction: (a base will be provided) *2 yards of fabric,
*3 yards ribbon, *(may be multiple equaling a total of), 3 felt squares, 3 yards wire (bring your own wire cutters), 1 dozen large pipe cleaners, role of masking tape (any width), roll of scotch tape, glue gun and glue sticks (extension cord), set of markers, safety pins, sewing kit, newspaper, 3 paper plates, ornamental object of choice ex. feather, flowers, etc.
SCENIC DESIGN CHALLENGE
This is a new event we are doing this year. During a 2-hour time slot, teams of four (4) students produce and bring to life a theatrically-based scenic design based on a show-specific prompt.
Concept
Your team will receive a description of a scene from a show. The team has 2 hours to design and construct that design using the cardboard box as the stage and whatever materials you brought.
Rules
· Your design must remain in the box.
· You may not use spray paint or spray adhesives
· You may not use flame.
· Be prepared to clean your area when your design is completed.
· You will have 2 hours to complete your design. No extra time will be given.
· Hazardous materials may not be used.

- You should work as a team and collaborate as much as possible.
- Your design must remain in the box provided.
- You may not alter the box because in reality you would not be able to alter the theater.
- Failure to observe and follow the required rules will result in disqualification.

HEADPIECE AND MAKE-UP CHALLENGE

Students will individually produce and bring to life a theatrically-based scenic design based on a show-specific prompt that the STO will provide.
Concept
Student will receive a description of a scene from a show. Each individual student will design and construct the set for that scene. Students may choose to use a technology-based platform or use a cardboard box as the stage and include materials to represent set pieces/decorations, etc.
- STO will provide a theme This will be announced a week before conference.
- Students will work individually to create makeup and headpiece that fits the theme. Full makeup kit may be used. No wigs.
- Students will work individually to create a headpiece that fits the theme. The base should be a recycled object from your home. We are encouraging you to use recycled materials. You may chose up to 10 different items to be used in your headpiece.
- Students may submit photo of the finished makeup and headpiece. Students are to complete all of the work themselves.

- If you choose technology, you are responsible for obtaining and learning the technology.
- All final projects (digital or 3d realistic) should be photographed (1) and submitted.
- If you choose the cardboard box option, your design must remain in the box provided.
- You may not alter the box because in reality you would not be able to alter the theater.
- You may not use spray paint or spray adhesives
- Hazardous materials may not be used.
